Trafalgar Tours – great Tour Company – everything was very organized.

I started my first day in Sydney in the early a.m.
We dropped our luggage at the Sheraton on the Park. This hotel is a great location From there we started our sightseeing of Sydney. We headed to the Sydney Opera House as well as the Harbour for a few photo ops. From there we took a short drive to Bondi Beach. Great beach with a ton of surfers. Wonderful boardwalk for hours of walking. The rest of the afternoon was ours to enjoy. Some people from our group did the Bridge Climb which they said is suitable for young and old. I opted for an afternoon of shopping at Paddington Market.

Our second day, we started the day off with a walking guided tour of the Opera House which was about an hour long. From there we walked down to the Harbour and boarded our boat for our Harbour cruise. The cruise lasted 1 ˝ hours and was operated by Captain Cook Cruises. The cruise includes a buffet lunch. What a great way to see the Harbour.

From there, we had the afternoon to ourselves which allowed time to check out the Rocks Market. The Rocks is the better of the two markets. For dinner we went to a Thai restaurant with a great view. The name of the restaurant is Thai Foon and it was near Darling Harbour.

Day 3 was a travelling day. We flew from Sydney to Cairns and checked into the Oasis Resort – after arriving we had the rest of the day to ourselves – so I soaked up some Austrailian sun. We enjoyed dinner at the hotel. The Oasis is a very clean hotel. The hotel consists of four Towers, three of which are non smoking. The pool area is great with lots of shaded areas as well as a swim up bar – what a treat!! If you are looking to e-mail while on vacation – Cairns is the place to do it….for 30 minutes it was approximately $2.00. There are nice restaurants in Cairns and a lot of outdoor patios.

Day 4 we were up early and boarded our bus to Port Douglas (1 ˝ hours from Cairns). Port Douglas is where we boarded our Quicksilver high speed catamaran. We were on the catamaran for approximately 1 ˝ hrs until we reached the outer reef. We then anchored and attached to the platoon. Included with the Quicksilver Great Barrier Reef was a buffet lunch. There was a great variety of sizes for the snorkelling tins/masks and snorkel. The snorkelling at the reef was incredible. Also offered was an intro to diving as well as certified divers. Helicopter tours were also available at an additional fee. Instead of taking the bus back from Port Douglas to Cairns, we took the Quicksilver 5 catamaran which took a bit longer but was worth it. We then went for a late Italian dinner at the pier. After dinner, we went to the night market which I would not recommend as there is a lot of junk.

Before travelling to Melbourne, we went to Wild World which was a 25 minute transfer from our hotel in Cairns. They have Kangaroo feeding. Also, Queensland is the only State that allows you to physically hold the Koala Bear and get your picture taken - $13.00. From there, off to the airport. After arriving in Melbourne, we transferred to the Stamford Hotel. All rooms in this hotel are suites. The bedroom is a separate room. There is a small kitchen and sitting room. The hotel has an east and a west Tower. All restaurants are in the East Tower. The West Tower is where the spa, gym and pool are. We then transferred to the Westin – WOW – The hotel has only been there for a few years. The Westin is in the shopping district. We had dinner at the hotel – fine dining.

We did a Melbourne City Tour stopping at the Fitzroy Gardens seeing the Conservatory (plants/flowers). We also made a quick stop at Captain Cooks cottage. From here we took a bus ride to Phillip Island to see the “little penguins” coming in from a full day of fun in the sea. They are the cutest little things waddling along. NO flash photography is allowed as it harms their eye sight. A gift shop sells postcards.

Well unfortunately, this marks the end of an amazing trip down under. A few comments regarding Trafalgar. Amazing Tour Guide – Traci – so full of knowledge and willing to adjust itinerary to fit more in. All hotels were centrally located which makes it easy to roam the streets. The bus was always clean and it was comfortable for the amount of time that was spent in it. Australia offers great value and it is so diverse – something for everyone!!
