Have you ever planned a trip, packed your
bags, and set out for your destination, never to arrive
because something more interesting came up along the
way?
That quite accurately describes my
career as, somewhere on the way to law school, I decided
to take a year off and try teaching. Thirty-five years
later, spent as a history and social science teacher
and department head, I retired and went to work for
Ellison Travel and Tours.
My years in the teaching profession
allowed for a great deal of experience as we traveled
often to many North American and European destinations
and that experience has been extremely valuable in
my work with Ellison.
During my stint as a teacher, I took
a year and did a teaching exchange in England that
allowed me to travel extensively in England, Scotland
and Wales along with destinations on the continent.
Following my formal retirement in
Canada, I spent three and a half years teaching in
Italy at Canadian College Italy, in Lanciano, Abruzzo.
This allowed me to learn the rudiments of the Italian
language and the school trips resulted in me getting
to know very well the major attractions anyone would
visit in Rome, Florence, Venice and the other major
destinations. My 1993 Fiat Uno allowed my wife and
I to visit all the nooks and crannies of that fabulous
country in our spare time.
Besides Great Britain and Italy, my
stints as a teacher and student travel allowed me
to visit Greece, France, Belgium, The Netherlands,
Austria, and The Czech Republic.
Personal travel has taken me on two
camping trips to the West Coast of Canada, returning
through the Northern States, the east coast of Canada
on three occasions and the Eastern United States including
cities like Orlando, Savannah, Charleston and Washington.
Working at Ellison Travel and Tours
has been a great extension of my teaching career and
I have enjoyed learning from the travel professionals
at Ellison. I look forward to traveling with you on
your next group excursion.
