Festival 500 July 3-10, 2011 Come join Festival 500 in a celebration of song. Festival 500 Sharing the Voices is an international festival of choral music featuring groups from Canada, the United States, Europe, southern Africa and the Far East. Choral groups will perform with and for each other and for the public at large. The primary thrust of the festival is for the participants to share the experience of singing together and to share this experience with the people of the province. The festival draws upon the strong choral tradition in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Festival 500 will offer participating choirs the opportunity to learn from and perform with a comprehensive roster of world-leading artists and clinicians. Each festival will have a series of lunchtime, afternoon and evening concerts for the general public and festival participants, as well as a full range of workshops specially for participants. There is also an academic symposium for the participants. Each participant choir will share an evening concert with two other choirs. They will perform separately, but at the end of the program, all three choirs will form a massed choir and sing pieces that have been prepared with a guest conductor on that day. On the final day of the festival, choirs will participate in services at local churches, and be encouraged to bring their own form of worship to the service. The festival is non-competitive, however, a selection process is in place. |
